The importance of Japanese language and an interest in Japanese language and culture have increased exponentially over the last few years.

1. It teaches new learning skills, such as ways to increase concentration, memorization, and listening. Studies have shown that through these new cognitive skills a student’s performance in other subjects often improves as well.
2. Learning a unique language like Japanese gives a child self-confidence and pride. How many other Middle Schools do you know that offer Japanese programs?
3. Teaches the value of respect and admiration for other cultures.
4. Helps the student to look more critically at his/her native language, especially because Japanese is very different from English.
5. Facilitates admittance into a good university (first AP [Advanced Placement Program] Japanese exam took place in May, 2007).
6. Helps in employment opportunities for business and Japan-related fields, showing employers that he/she is intelligent, unique and globally-conscious.
Facts: Japan ranks second after Canada in GA export markets.
